3. Nature of the Services — Registered Medical Device
ScanSkinAI is a UKCA Class I registered medical device in the United Kingdom.
MHRA Reference: 2025111201444906
Device Name: Ivy AI Skin Illness Detection Module v1.0
Manufacturer: Ivy AI Solutions Limited
Classification: UKCA Class I (standalone software)
3.1 Intended Purpose
ScanSkinAI is standalone software that analyses user-captured skin photographs to estimate the risk level of visible lesions and present urgency flags to support self-monitoring, triage, and clinician review. ScanSkinAI does not diagnose skin cancer or any other medical condition.
Inputs
Non-dermatoscopic photographs taken in non-emergency settings (home or clinic) by adults aged 18 or over, or by clinicians.
Outputs
AI-generated prediction results, condition summaries, risk-level classifications, and personalised next-step recommendations (e.g. monitor at home, seek routine GP review, or obtain urgent medical attention).
Intended Users
- Adult individuals (18+) seeking preliminary screening of skin concerns
- Healthcare professionals using the tool as a supplementary clinical decision support aid
- Employers and insurers integrating the tool into employee or member wellbeing programmes
ScanSkinAI is not intended to provide a diagnosis or treatment decision. It is a screening and triage support tool designed to complement — not replace — professional clinical assessment.
3.2 Core Capabilities
The Service covers 80+ skin conditions and delivers the following for each analysis:
- Prediction Results: AI-generated identification of potential skin conditions from uploaded photographs
- Condition Summary: Plain-language explanation of identified condition(s), their characteristics, and relevant clinical context
- Next-Step Recommendations: Personalised guidance on appropriate follow-up actions
- Risk Assessment: Risk-level classification with urgency flagging to support triage decisions
3.3 Online Derm Review — Optional Add-on Service
In addition to the core AI screening, we offer an optional online Derm Review where qualified dermatology specialists provide expert written interpretation of your AI analysis results:
- Standard Review (48-hour response): USD $19.99 — suitable for non-urgent mole or acne assessments
- Express Review (8-hour response): USD $39.99 — suitable for rapidly changing skin concerns
Full terms governing the Derm Review Service are set out in the dedicated section below.
3.4 Permitted Use
You may use the Platform solely for personal, non-commercial screening of your own skin concerns (or, if you are a healthcare professional, as a supplementary clinical decision-support aid). You shall not:
- Use the Service as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment
- Rely on any output to make clinical, pharmaceutical, or surgical decisions without independent confirmation by a qualified healthcare professional
- Redistribute, resell, or sub-license any output or underlying algorithm without our prior written consent
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract any model weights, training data, or proprietary logic from the Service
3.5 Screening-Only Disclaimer
All outputs generated by ScanSkinAI are screening indicators only. They do not constitute a clinical diagnosis, a treatment recommendation, or a prescription.
No doctor–patient or clinician–patient relationship is created by your use of the Service. You must always seek the advice of a qualified healthcare professional regarding any skin concern. In all cases where the Service flags a lesion as suspicious or high-risk, you are required to consult a registered medical practitioner without delay.
3.6 Algorithm Limitations
Users must understand the following inherent limitations of the AI screening algorithm:
Image Quality
The system requires adequate resolution, lighting, and focus. Poor-quality images are rejected by the built-in quality gate and the user is prompted to retake the photograph before any analysis is attempted.
SCC Sensitivity
Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) sensitivity is 82.5 % due to visual overlap with actinic keratosis and naevus — a recognised clinical challenge. The system is calibrated to over-refer for all malignant classes to minimise the risk of missed detections.
Body Location
The device is optimised for skin lesions accessible to smartphone photography. Internal, mucosal, and scalp lesions are outside the intended scope of the device.
Rare Conditions
For conditions with limited training data, low-confidence outputs are routed to a referral recommendation rather than a condition label via the uncertainty-gating mechanism.
General Accuracy
The device may produce false positives or false negatives. Accuracy is influenced by image quality, lighting conditions, camera resolution, skin tone, and the nature of the skin concern. Not all skin conditions can be reliably identified from non-dermatoscopic photographs alone.
3.7 Mandatory Referral Guidance
The system is a triage and screening tool only. All outputs require confirmation by a qualified healthcare professional.
- Where a lesion is flagged as suspicious for malignancy or assigned a high-risk classification, the Service will recommend that you seek urgent review by a dermatologist or your GP.
- Where confidence is low or the condition falls outside the training dataset, the Service will recommend professional consultation rather than providing a condition label.
- You should follow NHS guidance and contact your GP or call 111 if you are uncertain about any skin concern, regardless of the screening result.
- In an emergency (e.g. rapidly changing lesion with bleeding, pain, or systemic symptoms), call 999 or attend A&E immediately — do not rely on this Service.

Expert Dermatologist Review Add-on Service
ScanSkinAI offers an optional add-on service where qualified dermatology specialists provide expert written interpretation of your AI skin analysis results ("Derm Review Service"). This section outlines the terms governing the Derm Review Service.
A. Service Description
- What It Is: An expert dermatologist reviews your uploaded skin photo and AI-generated analysis, then provides a written interpretation of the findings
- What It Is NOT: This is NOT a medical diagnosis, prescription, treatment plan, or substitute for an in-person examination
- Scope: The review provides educational context and professional insight based solely on the photo and AI report provided
B. Response Tiers and Pricing
- Standard (48-hour response): $19.99 USD
- Express (8-hour response): $39.99 USD
Business days only: Response times (48 hours / 8 hours) are counted in business hours from Monday to Friday, 09:00–18:00 local reviewer time, and exclude weekends and public holidays.
Orders placed on weekends or public holidays are treated as received at 09:00 on the next business day. Public holidays follow the official calendar of the reviewer's jurisdiction (e.g. UK bank holidays in England & Wales for United Kingdom users; Hong Kong general holidays for Hong Kong users; and the equivalent national public holidays for other supported countries).
Example: an Express (8-hour) order placed at 20:00 on a Friday before a UK bank holiday Monday will start counting from 09:00 on Tuesday. We aim to meet these timeframes but cannot guarantee them.

- Reviewers may be licensed in various jurisdictions; credentials are verified by ScanSkinAI
- Reviews are conducted based on professional expertise and the information provided
D. No Doctor-Patient Relationship
Using the Derm Review Service does NOT establish a doctor-patient relationship between you and the reviewing dermatologist or ScanSkinAI.
- The reviewer provides an educational interpretation, not personalised medical advice
- The reviewer does not have access to your full medical history
- Follow-up care, prescriptions, and treatment decisions require an in-person consultation with your own healthcare provider
E. Limitations of Photo-Based Review
- Photo-based review cannot replace physical examination, dermoscopy, biopsy, or other clinical assessments
- Image quality, lighting, and angle may affect the reviewer's ability to provide accurate interpretation
- Not all skin conditions can be adequately assessed from photographs alone
- The review is limited to visible features in the submitted photo(s)
F. Payment and Refund Policy
- Payment: Full payment is required before review begins, processed securely via Stripe
- Non-Refundable: Once a review has been initiated (assigned to a reviewer), the fee is non-refundable
- Exceptions: Refunds may be considered if we are unable to complete the review due to our error or technical failure
G. Recommendation for Follow-up Care
If the review suggests any concerning findings, you should seek in-person medical evaluation promptly. For urgent or emergency concerns, contact emergency services or visit an emergency department immediately.
